Neuromodulators have been among the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments for decades, helping reduce and prevent signs of aging. While Botox has long been the gold standard, newer injectable treatments are starting to reshape the conversation, prompting questions like “Is Daxxify better than Botox?”
Here’s the thing: medical aesthetics is nuanced. It’s not always about what’s “better,” but instead about what fits a unique patient’s goals, anatomy, and biology. There are several FDA-approved neuromodulators for things like fine lines and wrinkles, face contouring, and lifting. And each works by relaxing muscles to soften expression lines and help restore a more balanced appearance.
But newer formulations, like Daxxify, are getting all the attention right now. So, needless to say, we have to answer the question you all are silently asking… Is Daxxify actually better than Botox? Or is it just different? We’ll talk about what Daxxify is, how it works, and how its formula differs from Botox. This way, you can make an informed decision about which treatment aligns with your skin and goals.

Is Daxxify Better Than Botox? Results and Longevity Explained
Remember when it was taboo to talk about Botox? (But everyone was still just secretly getting it anyway.) Those days are far behind us, with injectable cosmetic treatments becoming a leading minimally invasive procedure for facial rejuvenation. And now more than ever, there are plentyof FDA-approved anti-aging treatment options that can target several concerns.
However, sometimes more options just mean more confusion. That’s why when comparing Daxxify and Botox, the answer isn’t as simple as “better” or “worse.” It comes down to understanding the differences in:
- Technology used
- Duration of treatment effects
- Cost differences
- FDA-approved uses
- Long-term treatment plans
Most importantly, who your physician is matters. Just like Dr. Kling discusses on our Instagram, unfortunately, medical aesthetics is a very unregulated industry. In other words, results don’t justcome down to the product—they come down to the expertise behind the treatment. Dr. Kling, a double-board-certified Emergency Medicine physician, brings surgical expertise to non-surgical aesthetics.
With a multifaceted approach to healthcare, she considers each patient’s unique anatomy before ever recommending treatment. And that level of care matters—especially for people looking to avoid that “overdone” look. Remember: your face deserves strategy, not shortcuts.

What Is Daxxify?
Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is an FDA-approved botulinum toxin Type A injectable designed to treat severe glabellar lines. Frown lines that appear between the eyebrows or above the nose, “11 lines,” dynamic wrinkles—same thing, just different names.
Approved by the FDA in 2022, Daxxify works similarly to other neuromodulators by blocking nerve signals that trigger muscle contractions. The difference lies in the formulation.
Injectables such as Botox and Dysport use human serum albumin (HSA) as a stabilizer, preventing the neurotoxin from inactivating during storage. On the other hand, Daxxify uses a proprietary peptide-based stabilization technology. Not only does this stabilize the ingredients, but it also allows them to bind more effectively to nerve cells.
For some, this can lead to longer-lasting results, faster onset, and fewer treatments.
How Does Daxxify Work?
At their core, both Botox and Daxxify block the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, preventing muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. More specifically, they generally treat dynamic muscles, which are those that create temporary lines during expressions. Think: crow’s feet, frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, marionette lines—any expressions that cause your face to shift repeatedly. (So… all of them!)
The difference, however, lies in their stabilization systems. Daxxify’s peptide technology is designed to:
- Improve binding strength to receptors
- Increase thermal stability
- Extend how long the treatment remains effective
Think of Daxxify’s peptide stabilizer as an anchor. It helps the product stay attached to nerve receptors more consistently, which is why people often find it lasts longer. It’s not that Daxxify is stronger; it’s that it’s more stable and longer-lasting at the receptor.

How Is Daxxify Different From Botox?
On the surface? Daxxify and Botox essentially do the same thing: temporarily relax muscles to treat facial wrinkles. However, because they use different formulas, everything from treatment longevity to the amount of units needed differs. Here’s a better breakdown:
Duration of Treatment
Botox generally lasts for 3–4 months, while Daxxify lasts 6–9 months. That’s a significant difference—and it all comes down to the formula.
Daxxify’s 35-amino-acid peptide has high hydrophobicity and chemical modifications that help protect it from rapid degradation. In other words, it’s designed to stay stable and active at the injection site for longer. Botox, on the other hand, uses human serum albumin (HSA), which is highly soluble and designed to recycle rapidly.
Does everyone who gets Botox or Daxxify treatments follow the same timeline? No, of course not! That’s why receiving injectables from a board-certified physician, like Dr. Kling, is important. Your injector analyzes factors like muscle strength, facial movement patterns, and how your body typically responds to treatment. This is what influences how long treatments last.
Onset of Results
Daxxify generally has a faster onset of results, with many clients noticing visible improvements in as little as 1–2 days. Again, we can thank the peptides for that. The amino acid chain allows the botulinum toxin to reach nerve receptors quickly and bind to neurons more rapidly.
Botox, on the other hand, begins appearing within 3–7 days. You may notice initial softening within the first few days, but the muscle-relaxation benefits take a little longer to become fully visible. Regardless, the onset of results varies across clients. The full effect of each treatment can take up to 2 weeks, depending on your metabolism.

Formulation and Stabilization
As we’ve already mentioned a handful of times, Botox and Daxxify have different formulations, which means they have different stabilization systems. Daxxify uses a peptide-powered formula featuring botulinum toxin type A, stabilized by a 35-amino-acid peptide known as “Peptide Exchange Technology.”
Botox uses purified botulinum toxin type A and human albumin (HSA), a naturally occurring protein that stabilizes the neurotoxin. While slower acting, HSA has been used in pharmaceuticals for years with a well-established safety profile. Naturally, this is why people often lean towards Botox—it uses ingredients patients have already received and are familiar with.
Both Daxxify and Botox are FDA-approved, though, so it’s not a matter of safety. It’s a matter of what they can successfully treat—and how often.
FDA-Approved Uses and Track Record
Off-label use isn’t uncommon in medical aesthetics. In fact, it’s actually extremely common! That said, it should ALWAYS be intentional, evidence-based, and performed by a provider who understands anatomy—not one who’s taking a chance and hoping for magical results.
With this in mind, here’s a quick breakdown of what Botox and Daxxify are FDA-approved for:
- Botox: FDA-approved for multiple cosmetic areas, Botox can successfully treat frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and platysma bands. And at Emerge, Dr. Kling frequently uses Botox to prevent and soften fine lines, sculpt the lower face, define the jawline, perform non-surgical neck lifts, perform a “lip flip,” lift the brows, contour the nose, and refine facial expressions while maintaining natural movement. Botox is also FDA-approved to treat chronic migraines, overactive bladder, underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis), and cervical dystonia.
- Daxxify: Because it’s newer, Daxxify has only received FDA approval for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines—the vertical wrinkles in between the eyebrows that often extend to the forehead. It’s also approved to treat cervical dystonia in adults to improve neck pain.
It’s not that Daxxify is less safe or less efficient; it’s simply newer with a more limited track record. And that brings us back to this: it’s not just what a product can do, but how experienced your physician is. By understanding your anatomy, your provider can create results that look natural, supportive, and balanced.

Units and Measurement
Botox and Daxxify are measured differently, which means units aren’t interchangeable. For example, Daxxify treatments tend to follow a 2:1 ratio—meaning 20 units of Botox equals 40 units of Daxxify. This isn’t a result of one treatment being more or less powerful. They’re simply formulated differently.
How Long Does Daxxify Last?
Daxxify is known for longer-lasting effects, with many patients experiencing results for 6 to 9 months. However, just like with every minimally invasive medical aesthetic treatment, results aren’t one-size-fits-all. Factors that can influence treatment longevity include:
- Your metabolism
- Muscle strength
- Movement patterns
- Injection technique
- Dosage
- Lifestyle factors, like sun exposure and workout intensity
- Age
- Skin type
- Skin quality
- Receptor turnover
… Yeah, there’s a lot that goes into it. That’s also why Dr. Kling emphasizes the importance of multimodality. There’s no one magical treatment, and radiant, rejuvenated skin isn’t luck—it’s strategy. The best, most effective way to approach facial balancing and restoration is through a treatment plan that combines procedures to address all three layers of aging: the skin, structure, and cellular function.
So, no, you don’t need plastic surgery, an upper bleph, or even a facelift. You need precision, expertise, and a multimodal treatment plan. We talk all about this on the Emerge blog, in posts like “Non-Surgical Face Lifts” and “Microneedling vs. Laser.”
How Much Does Daxxify Cost?
Prices can vary across Medspas and medical aesthetic physicians. So, we can’t pinpoint one specific price—you’d have to contact your provider for a more accurate cost breakdown. What we can do, though, is give you a little insight.
Generally, Daxxify is more expensive than Botox, with costs averaging about 30–40% higher per session. There’s a reason for this, though: Daxxify has a higher product cost, a different dosing structure, and a longer duration.
So while it may cost more, it often lasts longer and requires fewer maintenance treatments per year. And over time, that can make a significant difference for clients looking to decrease procedure frequency.
The question shouldn’t be “How much does Daxxify cost today?” Instead, you should ask, “What does it cost over time?”

Why Is Daxxify Better Than Botox?
Long-Lasting Results
One of the biggest reasons patients are interested in Daxxify is due to its longer-lasting results. While Botox lasts 3–4 months, Daxxify can last double that for some. And there are a few advantages that branch off from this.
Sometimes, you don’t want to think about quarterly maintenance. Other times, you just have stronger muscle movement which causes Botox to metabolize much faster than you expected. Regardless, Daxxify’s treatment longevity can be an advantage depending on your goals and anatomy.
Less Frequent Maintenance
Because Daxxify can last longer, it can also allow patients to space out their treatments. Instead of scheduling visits 3–4 times per year, you may only need 2 to maintain smooth, wrinkle-free skin. And for busy professionals, moms, grandparents, or anyone trying to simplify their routine, that flexibility can make a difference.
Remember, though: Botox allows for more frequent adjustments. Maybe you actually love your crow’s feet, but you don’t love forehead lines. (To each their own!) Because Botox does wear off more quickly, you can adjust treatments to your specific goals and preferences.
Ultimately, it’s about what you find most beneficial over time.
Advanced Formulation
Daxxify’s formulation is one of its most unique features. It’s the first and only FDA-approved peptide-formulated neuromodulator for frown lines, which can contribute to its duration and performance.
It’s promising, undoubtedly. But, from a medical standpoint, it’s simply a different way of delivering the same mechanism: blocking nerve signals to temporarily relax targeted muscles. This is another reminder that Daxxify isn’t universally better, and a qualified physician can determine which neuromodulator best aligns with your goals and unique anatomy.
Streamlined Treatment
Having received FDA approval for multiple treatments, Botox still has the advantage in terms of versatility. And there’s a reason physicians have been using it for decades! It has a long-standing safety profile across both cosmetic and medical uses.
Daxxify is currently FDA-approved for glabellar lines; emphasis on currently. In retrospect, it’s a new product, and FDA approval takes time. This doesn’t mean that physicians won’t use it for a broader range of treatments in the future. However, as of now, it’s most promising for glabellar lines—and glabellar lines only.
Is Daxxify Actually Better Than Botox?
Here’s the truth: Daxxify isn’t better. Botox isn’t better. They’re different treatments using different formulas to achieve the same result. Ultimately, all neuromodulators—Daxxify, Botox, Dysport, Xeomin—all work by blocking nerve signals to temporarily relax targeted muscles, softening lines and preventing them from deepening.
If your priority is long-lasting results and fewer appointments, Daxxify can be a great fit. But if you value flexibility and a wider range of treatment options, Botox remains an excellent choice. At Emerge Aesthetics, Dr. Kling doesn’t curate treatment plans on trends. She creates them based on what will provide the most natural, balanced result for your unique face.
The goal isn’t to overcorrect, overdo, or overfill. It’s to restore harmony, soften lines, and maintain skin quality over time.
